The Weekly – Tired of Being Inspired?

End of Summer Hazy Days

This has been a quick and amazing summer, or at least it was for me. Now, maybe, just maybe I’m in a less than inspired mood and that’s a lesson, isn’t it?

Do you ever get tired of being inspired? Tired of being “ON”?  Tired of doing everything for everyone? Or at least that’s how it feels right now as I write this.

You may not have these – (Want to do nothing) spells but if you do read on for ways to re-energize yourself because you must be energized to energize others.

Tips to get your mojo back:

  1. Accept it and go with it.
    1. If you don’t feel energized, maybe it’s time to go back to bed, take a bath, go for a walk or watch a movie. Sometimes your mind is simply too full to continue to process – so shut it off for a while
  2. Judge not.
    1. Not feeling energized is simply something that will pass, however it will stay longer if you judge yourself for the feeling. Most people have some down periods and they end sooner when you don’t judge them.
  3. Be with your pets
    1. Sometimes the most obvious thing is the one we miss. Our pets rarely display the down times we do unless they are sick – that’s something to consider for yourself – make sure you’re not coming down with something, but then, get into the petting mode, go roll in the grass, throw a ball and act like your furry friends.
  4. Sign up for something new
    1. When you used to sign up for classes, when you had school starting there was  so much energy flowing – why not doing that again? We are even offering a new program for leaders called: The Ultimate Leadership Immersion Adventure and it starts in October. Schedule a complimentary session here to see if you’re ready.

As the summer comes to a close I’m looking forward to the smell in the air, to the crispness in the mornings, to the change in the weather and the changes in me too.

I welcome your comments – and if you think you’re ready to step it up as a leader – schedule your complimentary session now.

Blessings, Shawna

The Weekly – Dog Days of Summer in the Year of the Dog

According to what I found online, the Dog Days of Summer are wrapped up about now, however, according to that same definition of a period of lethargy, inactivity, or indolence, they are still going strong! Ha!

“dog days. the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: now often reckoned from July 3 to August 11. a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence.”

This is something you can use to your advantage in your business.

Besides the back to school push from every major retailer in the world – and that started, what, the day school got out? You can use this August lull period to focus on the dog!

Here are two ideas:

A keep cool contest –

Have your clients post the best ideas and photos from how they keep their pooches cool during this “hot” period.

Do your own version of Back to School – With Training!

Focus on training this month – do a new trick video – or a new trick video daily and feature your four-legged customers as they go, back to school!

Lastly, and this is for those days you don’t much want to do anything, don’t!

There is a reason to take a vacation in the summer. You might make a big deal of that and when you return – hold a picnic someplace and invite your tribe to meet you at the dog park and you bring the treats!

The Weekly – Dogs in Need Eat Free While We Drink Free! Yippee!

Mission Driven Means Good Business

Tonight is the Women in the Pet Industry Network reception at Super Zoo. Hope you’re reading this on your phone while strutting the aisles of Superzoo! If not, shut your eyes and envision booths of pet products as far as the eye can see. No joking on this and what shoes you wear is one of the top things on your mind by the second day!

The mission of Women in the Pet Industry Network is simple and has evolved.

We are all about Women Igniting Leadership. For themselves, for other women and for the industry as a whole. These are exciting times and we will have the honor of hearing from the very first female CEO of World Pet Association and Superzoo host Jacinthe Moreau for a very short share as well as co-founder of Dog is Good and current Pet Industry Woman of the Year, Gila Kurtz.

Super exciting and we will be live streaming from WIPIN’s Public Facebook Page, so go there to watch.

Note: The reception starts at 5 PM!

Wednesday, June 27, 2018 5pm – 8pm
Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas
South Pacific AB Room, North Convention Centre

I mention our mission and I’m going to share the missions of our sponsors so you can revisit your mission.

My mission you think? – Where is your mission? Do you review it? Does your team know it?

One of the most compelling things you can do for your business is know and communicate your WHY – Why are you even in business? Why did you decide the pet industry? Why does your product or service matter?

In the world we are doing business in, knowing your why, your mission and communicating that is good business.

To help you and allow you to know our fabulous sponsors better, here are their words from their sites.

Mission of DogForDog

Here’s how it works: You Buy. We Donate. They Eat! Our food has been sold in over 15,000 stores nationwide. To date, we have donated over 2,000,000 lbs of dog food to shelters. We’ve also created a line of toys that dogs love! With each toy purchase, we donate a meal to a dog in need!

NOTE: DogforDog has drink tickets for the first arrivals at the reception! These folks are givers!

Mission of The Pet Care Innovation Prize

Launched in 2016, the Pet Care Innovation Prize is a competition to support and connect innovative early-stage companies that have products and/or services already in market. The PCIP is powered by a global leader in pet care – Nestlé Purina PetCare.

NOTE: PCIP is taking applications NOW for the upcoming prize – it’s an awesome honor and besides all the cash awarded, the companies selected get a bootcamp in St. Louis all around their business – priceless!

Mission of Pets+ Magazine

Pets+ magazine shares ideas and inspiration.
We are the pet industry’s newest publication and an essential resource for independent pet retailers and service providers.

NOTE: This magazine has everyone talking! Fresh and innovative – make sure you subscribe!

After compiling these and knowing all of these companies also support Women Igniting Leadership, it’s exciting that we can come together tonight for good things.

Hope to see you there!

Blessings,

The Weekly – It’s a Dog World Now!

Dogs Featured on Life Magazine Cover!

I was walking through the airport sundries shop when my eye spied this magazine.

If you weren’t already convinced dogs are in our lives to stay then this is additional proof, especially with a subtitle of “Why We Need Them. Why They Need Us.”

When I travel, I think my senses around pets increase, mostly because I miss my own four-legged companions when I’m away from them. So how can you capitalize on this?

Depending on your pet business or service, knowing how connected we are to our pets gives you a competitive advantage if you think less about the “Sale” and more about the “Experience” of our pet love.

Certainly, we want to purchase things for our loved ones, even and maybe especially because they don’t care if we do or not!

Here’s what many pet businesses miss. We do it less because of the pets need and more because of our need to show our love, especially when they are not with us.

Let me repeat that: We purchase things for our pets for US to feel close when they are not with us.

My thinking (and other pet lovers too) “I miss Fido so much, I will certainly get that new collar, leash, toy or treat!” Or – “Fido is so amazing and deserves the best food, bed, minerals available!”

For service providers – think about how your customers feel LEAVING our beloved fur ball. We will pay premium to be alerted, showed or engaged in the lives of our pets.

For those most savvy, what if you focused on pet lovers who need a fur fix?

Here are a few ideas:

Come and pet and play with the puppies – or kittens or any baby animals.

Need a fur fix? Spend time with the old dogs to keep them and you healthier!

Name the pet contests – or anything where they can feel a part of your family.

Traveling and feeling furless? Visit us and you can get all the slobbering you can handle!

I’m writing this after making an appointment for my big boy to go to the kennel while I’m at Superzoo – it’s a bittersweet time, I know he is well cared for but my own heart is all twisted because I’ll miss him so much! Let’s see, how much shopping can I do at Superzoo… nearly 1200 exhibitors- I should be covered! Hope to see you at the WIPIN reception on Wednesday.

Blessings,

The Weekly – Memories, Can be Wonderful and Yet…

Missing those who we’ve loved and lost

Memorial Day or Decoration Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.

That’s the official reason all government offices are closed as well as many businesses. Will you be open for business next Monday?

If so, how will you handle this special remembrance day? If not, how are you communicating your reason why?
