The Weekly – Are you Asking Bad Questions?

The Real Question Behind The Question

By now you know I ask a lot of questions. As I’ve lived and gained wisdom it’s become apparent that a good question can be the key to, might I say with confidence, EVERYTHING?

Good questions have lead to nearly if not all discoveries (I wonder what would happen if we…)

And most amazing relationships, (Wanna go out with me, or have lunch with me or share a ride?)

They gain us business, (What are you looking for? What result are you after? How can I serve you?)

Recently I was asked a bad question….

And it was a question, so I felt compelled to answer it, even though I don’t think the asker wanted an answer, they really wanted to make a point. Right there is when you will know you are asking bad questions.

When you don’t want an answer, you want to make the other person feel bad, or squirm, or make yourself appear superior in some way. I know that this is hard to admit, however, read the questions and you may find you are asking some bad questions.

Here aisa list of poor questions you would do  yourself a favor by NEVER asking –

(Note: I will not go into how to answer these poor questions here – since there are multiple ways and the space here, and your time is limited)

Why would you do that? Why are you doing that? Tell me why?

These questions are not meant to get an answer, you are simply asking these types of questions out of astonishment and it leaves the other person no place to go.

What is your company doing about…? What are you doing about…? How can you allow…?

These questions are usually meant to shame, belittle or make the asker feel superior since it is assumed they are doing something about whatever it is. Will asking these questions ever get you help, or support? Unlikely.

Who told you to do that? What were you thinking? How could you have thought that was okay?

If you’ve uttered these questions to a teammate/employee, or a child or lover, it’s a direct accusation that they did something wrong and you really only want them to know it through asking an unanswerable question.

When the bad question came to me, from someone I didn’t know, I realized they more than likely didn’t know it was such a bad/poor question. I am uncertain of their intent, though not to help me is fairly certain.

My goal in sharing these less than stellar questions is to HELP YOU! Next time you are about to ask one of the above, stop  yourself and ask yourself this question first. Do I need to say anything? And if I do, what would be a better question than these?

Pet Women Weekly – Be an Island if You Like

Dear Pet Lover,

Islanders Sometimes Get Burned –

Whenever I think of the islands – I think tropical – hot, sunny – places I get burned easily. Being a redhead that even happens on overcast days!

However – as the rest of the posts this month promote – doing it alone is something you don’t have to do – and from everything I read, learn and experience you DON’T HAVE TO!

You can be an island if you want to, or a lone ranger it’s sometimes called, if you want to stay the shape and capacity you are currently at.

What if however, you want to grow, expand, excel?

Then you need peeps. Peeps that understand your vision, peeps who can do what you can’t or don’t want to.

So far, I’ve suggested you decide to collaborate – and consider using Virtual Assistance – and also that you know what you want that VA to do for you.

What I haven’t yet suggested is that you take a long look, now that the year is underway, at all you have to do, all you’ve agreed to do, all that spills over on you first.

With this list and knowledge, you might understand that being an island is only a tiny spot in a very large and ever expanding sea of possibilities.

So, be an island if you wish -or get on board with your own best options and start building a team. It’s not only smart, it’s a lot more fun!

A big shout out to our team (Amazingly talented every person) – VA’s right there too!

Pet Women Weekly – Do you have the reading habit?

Dear Pet Lover,

Read all about it!

When Warren Buffett was once asked about the keys to success, he pointed to a nearby stack of books and said, “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”

When beginning his investing career, Buffett read between 600 and 1,000 pages per day, and he still devotes about 80% of his day to reading.

This was included in an ezine I get monthly and relish –

When I did my 2016 review – it seems I only devoured about 40 books last year – and what was most surprising is how little I got out of some of them!

So – in reading the quote above again it occurred to me that my reading might be more beneficial if I read in themes – so it builds up – so my knowledge stacks up to more results.

Please know, I’m not saying I don’t gain something from everything I read – after all, a person gets what they focus on, however is I was a bit more focused on one specific topic (like Buffett’s investing research) how much better would I be?

So I will.

I have many books already in the cue (I actually listen to books more than I read them – thank you Audible!) – and for this year, it’s about how to help/serve my clients more in their thinking.

I’ll of course keep you posted!

Since you’re reading this – you will be the beneficiary!

Bring it on!

You create your day – so make it magnificent!
