Pet Women Weekly – Are you a Just Person?

Dear Pet Lover,

Working with executives and leaders in various industries allows me interesting perspectives, I absolutely love it, adore it, relish all I gain from one on one time with forward-thinking professionals.

One of the companies I work with, (I’m currently coaching 8 of their top leaders), has been working through the messages the leaders are moving out into their teams and the market.

One thing that seems to be universal is how often mixed messages are sent from those running the show, but that’s a different post.

One thing the CEO shared and those closest to him know in their bones, is that he formed this business, and has grown it 100 fold by focusing on one key element.

Justice

When asked why he struck out with his own in business, why he worked so many long and arduous hours and why so many of his team are so loyal to him he said, “I came from a place that was not just, nor fair, and I knew I could do better.”

Wow –

Here is the definition of Justice:

jus·tice  ?j?st?s/

noun

1. just behavior or treatment.

2. “a concern for justice, peace, and genuine respect for people”

Is your business built on these types of principals? Can you bring to mind something that is that clear to you?

BTW – in all the years I’ve coached inside companies, this is the only one with a CEO who shared that his whole reason for building a business was to work in a Just environment and since he couldn’t find one, he created it.

I’m honored to work with him and them.

What is your business about?

Respond and let me know – it helps me help you even more!

Blessings,
Shawna

Pet Women Weekly – I couldn’t be more sincere!

Dear  Pet Lover,

My mastermind buddy Kevin, the last time we were together, mentioned something I’ve mulled over quite a bit.

He said, “Shawna, you are the only person I know who can tell so many different people you adore them, and mean it completely every time.”

I asked, “What are you trying to tell me, Kevin?”

He smiled and said, “It’s kinda crazy but I know you’re totally sincere and so it really works for you. I like it, and I like that you adore me too!”

Hmmm…. Do I really tell a lot of people I adore them? And do I actually adore them?

With the help of one of the virtues from Benjamin Franklin’s 13, I am looking at this habit, trait, feeling (whatever) of mine in a new way and here’s how it can be of benefit to you.

Ask yourself:  How do I really feel about my customers?

Please don’t answer this in a flippant or casual way. Several of my coaching clients have trouble with their team because some of their team is treating a customer like an interruption.

Some sales people believe that “All buyers are liars”

Sometimes it’s easier to love up the pets we relish serving and ignore or brush off the guardians who actually pay us.

So ask yourself honestly and sincerely: Do I like my customers? Dare we ask: Do I love my customers?

For me I do love them, I adore them and I tell them often and it’s completely, honestly true, which is why it seems to work.

Benjamin Franklin encourages us to: Think innocently and justly; and, if you speak; speak accordingly.

Well, are you sincere in treating your customers how you feel about them? And if you were honest in your answer, do you like, love, adore them?

And if not, why are you in this business? Just saying….

Adore serving you! And you know I mean it!

Blessings, Shawna

Pet Women Weekly – Red, White and Booze

Dear Pet Lover,

What’s Your Tradition?

Yesterday, on the 4th of July you would have found me in a camp chair alongside the road in St. Paul, Oregon for a good old fashioned small town parade. You can’t get more American than that in my mind.

Horses, farm machinery, all the rodeo queens from every county and hot rod cars. I might have shed a tear, but then, I’m kinda sentimental and sleep deprived.

I called this post, Red White & Booze because this holiday, like many, is a fun time to have a little pick me up in the coffee (or so they tell me – I don’t drink coffee) and the beer booths open just as you realize how hot the day has gotten.

I’ve never seen anyone get out of hand in this small town holiday, and that’s not the point, but I think there is also something interesting about how often holidays and drinking go together and what lessons  we can glean for our businesses.

It’s a hot day so a cold beer seems not only appropriate, but refreshing. A hot toddy around the winter holidays is just the ticket too. And happy hours are everywhere right?

Now if you’ve incorporated a “yappy” hour into your business I bet it’s working well – or maybe not – did you actually add alcohol for the pet peeps?

There is something a little controversial about this topic, especially for those who don’t drink, but if we take all the judgment away – the reason people drink is because they are feeling free, or loose, or happy.

Oh why not, the thinking goes, a beer sounds great!  How about an elephant ear, corn dog or caramel corn! And after one beer it feels like other purchases are just as smart.

So, what are you doing to help your pet people feel that sense of release, of fun, of holiday, every day?

Please send me your ideas and what is working. You inspire me every time!

If you could focus your efforts on the “FEELING” that people get when they interact with you, then who knows, maybe every day would be a  holiday for your bottom line! Wouldn’t that make you cry for joy?

 Blessings,
Shawna

Pet Women Weekly – Are You Rightsizing Your Life?

Dear Pet Lover,

How do you keep things in order?

It’s the end of May – 5 months flew by in 2017 and now it’s spring and some people do spring cleaning, how about you?

The 3rd virtue from Benjamin’s 13 Virtues is about order. And what is order expect this – from Benjamin:

Order: Let all your Things have their Places. Let each part of your business have it’s time.

When working with my coaching clients we often speak about how they can re-order things in their lives and businesses to be more excellent, to be more productive, to enjoy more of the life they are creating.

In hopes to keep you focused and in the ORDERLY mindset here’s a couple of things to think about and incorporate into your thinking and day:

 1. Is there a place for everything?

This is probably the best question to ask for every item you keep at home and work. If there isn’t a place for something, it’s the cue to get a place.

2. Do I need this?

One thing that I’m asking more and more is: Do I need what I’m about to purchase, or what I already have? What is happening more and more (that I ask the question) – is no, I really don’t and it’s such a freeing feeling!

3. What would make this better?

This is a question I ask a lot and one that helps me do things better, think through things clearer and produce better results. And if that’s not order, I don’t know what it.

These three questions help me RIGHTSIZE my work and life, as this month comes to a close, may it help you right size too.

 Blessings, Shawna

Monday Mindset: Start your week off well! Question everything?

Dear Pet Lover,

Question everything?

What is your intention for the week?

Ask yourself…

Are you asking yourself good questions?

Do the questions you ask – begin with how or why? (How is better.)

A favorite Mind-Setting Quote:

“It is not every question which deserves an answer.”
