Monday Mindset: Start your week off well! Are you an action taker?

Dear Pet Lover,

Are you an action taker?

What is your intention for the week?

Ask yourself…

Are you living a life of action or reaction?

What steps (actions) can you take this week toward your goal?

A favorite Mind-Setting Quote:

“Think like a man of action, act like a man of thought.”

~ Henri Bergson

Pet Women Weekly – What if you couldn’t make Priority plural?

Dear Pet Lover,

What if you couldn’t make Priority plural?

Helping entrepreneurs and leaders excel is my business. It’s the greatest gift and most thrilling thing I’ve ever done and I am blessed with the most exceptional clients in the universe.

And most everyone dances around how to set their priorities.

One way that can help them, and you is this: What if you didn’t make the word priority plural?

What if, you only had ONE priority? One highest best goal, or task that you put your full focus on?

Definition:

noun

1. the fact or condition of being regarded or treated as more important.

2. “”the safety of the country takes priority over any other matter” – prime concern, most important consideration, primary issue.

One thing –

I challenge you to think about that today as you review your tasks – what are the items that will move your forward fastest to your ONE or TOP priority?

Sometimes when we have too much on our list – we do most of it less than stellar.

Work towards your ONE TOP thing – and let me know how it goes!

Believe in you!

Blessings, Shawna

Pet Women Weekly – Do you have a mind like water?

Dear Pet Lover,

Do you have a mind like water?

In karate, there is something called “mind like water” – which implies being in perfect readiness.

David Allen in his fine book, “Getting Things Done” describes this process like this:

“Imagine throwing a pebble into a still pond. How does the water respond? The answer is, totally appropriately to the force and mass of the input; then it returns to calm. It doesn’t overeat or underreact.”

Allen goes on to say a bit later, “Anything that causes you to overreact or underreact can control you, and often does. Responding inappropriately to your email, your staff, your projects, your unread magazines, your thoughts about what you need to do, your children, or your boss will lead to less effective results than you’d like. Most people give either more or less attention to things than they deserve, simply because they don’t operate with a “mind like water.”

(David Allen, Penguin books p11)

This to me is a fabulous reminder to be in the present – as I suggest every day to those on my 5:15 AM accountability call – when we are present – our minds can be more like water.  Ready to receive appropriately what comes our way. Also – using our mind to know that we will react in a right manner is also key, which we have been discussing since the first of the year.

Today I give you a call to make your “mind like water” as you move into your day and week.

It doesn’t matter if it’s March, or November – the same principles work – it’s how we think, being present and planning or reflecting, or allowing.

As we begin this third month of this year – it’s a great time to work on getting our “mind like water” so we can accept and respond to all the forces coming our way.

 Use this! Adore you!

Blessings, Shawna

Pet Women Weekly – Be an Island if You Like

Dear Pet Lover,

Islanders Sometimes Get Burned –

Whenever I think of the islands – I think tropical – hot, sunny – places I get burned easily. Being a redhead that even happens on overcast days!

However – as the rest of the posts this month promote – doing it alone is something you don’t have to do – and from everything I read, learn and experience you DON’T HAVE TO!

You can be an island if you want to, or a lone ranger it’s sometimes called, if you want to stay the shape and capacity you are currently at.

What if however, you want to grow, expand, excel?

Then you need peeps. Peeps that understand your vision, peeps who can do what you can’t or don’t want to.

So far, I’ve suggested you decide to collaborate – and consider using Virtual Assistance – and also that you know what you want that VA to do for you.

What I haven’t yet suggested is that you take a long look, now that the year is underway, at all you have to do, all you’ve agreed to do, all that spills over on you first.

With this list and knowledge, you might understand that being an island is only a tiny spot in a very large and ever expanding sea of possibilities.

So, be an island if you wish -or get on board with your own best options and start building a team. It’s not only smart, it’s a lot more fun!

A big shout out to our team (Amazingly talented every person) – VA’s right there too!

Promote Your Pet Business

business promotionIn a perfect world, customers would be beating a path to your door. In the real world, though, those of is in business have to clear the path and invite clients and customers to our door. I work with many clients who will say, “I hate ‘shameless self promotion’.” To that I say, “If you don’t toot your own horn, who will?” Let me add a caveat to that, though. Promoting yourself doesn’t mean that every social media post you write or every interaction you have on line is a sales pitch — no one wants to be constantly sold to, am I right?

What you can do is smoothly promote yourself on your social media. If you’ve written a book, offer tips from it. If you have a pet product or pet service here are some ways to smoothly promote:

  1. Mention its benefits
  2. Mention clients with whom you have worked
  3. Share a story of a happy customer
  4. A picture of a pet enjoying your product
  5. Answer questions relevant to your ideal client

Be a useful resource to your followers.

Here are some other ways that you can promote your pet business.

  1. Blog about it
  2. Share information on social media
  3. Use your inclusion in the WIPIN Top Women In The Pet Industry Magazine in your press kit
  4. Embed your profile on your website
  5. Link back to your member profile on the WIPIN site
  6. Send a press release to your local newspaper either if your business is celebrating an anniversary or has received kudos
  7. If there is a holiday coming up that you can provide valuable insight on, contact a local paper about that. What do I mean? Let’s say it’s summer and you’re traveling with your pets, offer yourself as a resource to a reporter who is writing a story on “traveling with pets.” Approach a news outlet with that idea and offer yourself as a source for the article.
  8. Get yourself known as an expert in your particular niche by writing about it, answering questions and even joining groups on LinkedIn

Know that you can “sell” yourself and your business without always “selling.”

What pain points do you have when it comes to blogging, social media or self promotion? Let me know. You can comment here or write to me at Robbi AT WomenInThePetIndustry DOT.com
